The Road to Research Scholarship is open to international applicants eligible to commence the Macquarie Master of Research (MRes) in Sydney, Australia, starting Session 1, January 2026. This scholarship is designed to support students undertaking shorter research projects within the MRes and to provide a pathway into research careers.

The award provides:
A tuition fee offset for a maximum of one year
A living allowance stipend of $39,700 AUD for one year
Applicants must:
Be an international student (not an Australian/New Zealand citizen, or Australian permanent resident)
Be onshore in Australia at the time of application
Intend to reside in Sydney, Australia during their candidature
Enrol as a full-time student in the Master of Research (MRes) commencing January 2026 (S1 2026)
Meet the English language requirements for graduate research degrees at Macquarie
Meet the admission criteria for the Master of Research (refer to schedule 2.3 on the university website)
Have confirmation of supervision from an eligible Macquarie University researcher (mandatory for FMHHS, desirable for other faculties)
Hold a valid Student Visa (or another visa type permitting full-time study) by the program start date
Macquarie University will:
Rank candidates based on their Weighted Average Mark (WAM) or GPA
Assess overseas qualifications using Australian Government guidelines to ensure comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
Award scholarships to the highest-ranked applicants
Interested and qualified candidates should:

Secure supervision confirmation from an eligible Macquarie University researcher.
Prepare and submit an online application for the Master of Research (MRes) program via the Macquarie University Online Application Portal.
