The Group SHE Manager will have full accountability for leading Safety, Health, and Environmental improvement initiatives across the organization’s African footprint. This role requires collaboration with site supply chain teams and local leadership to implement SHE strategies and improvement plans that minimize injuries, illnesses, and environmental impact.
The position covers multiple geographies, ensuring SHE compliance and excellence at both site and group levels.
Deploy the global/cluster SHE strategy, policies, and standards to achieve sustainable excellence at site level.
Lead and manage SHE teams to deliver occupational health, safety, and environmental results.
Conduct risk assessments for factory operations, projects, contractors, and offsite events; implement effective control measures.
Oversee investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses; provide recommendations and follow-up.
Coordinate and conduct site-specific SHE training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Monitor environmental parameters such as liquid discharge, gaseous emissions, and solid waste disposal, ensuring compliance with group standards.
Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Liaise with government agencies on SHE matters and advise site management on compliance issues.
Formulate and review standard operating procedures (SOPs) and implement contractor management policies.
Track, monitor, and report SHE performance metrics to leadership and stakeholders.
Act as the custodian of SHE expertise on-site, providing guidance, mentorship, and leadership.
Facilitate hazard spotting, near-miss reporting, and follow-up on safety inspections.
University degree with 15+ years’ experience in FMCG or general manufacturing with similar technologies.
Strong working knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental regulations and practices.
Proven leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication, influencing, and analytical abilities.
Experience in manufacturing or engineering operations.
Demonstrated ability in project management and implementation of SHE improvement initiatives.
Track record of delivering measurable safety, health, and environmental results across multiple sites.
Strategic thinking with operational execution.
Ability to work across multiple geographies and manage expatriate responsibilities.
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
