Hello and welcome to EarthTab Business School. My name is Nicolas Moreau and i will be your preceptor for the course Organizational Behaviour (OB). Organizational Behaviour (OB) is a multidisciplinary field of study that investigates how individuals, groups, and structures influence and interact within an organization, and how those behaviors ultimately impact organizational effectiveness, performance, innovation, and sustainability. It combines principles and research from psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, political science, and management science to understand and improve workplace dynamics. At its core, Organizational Behaviour is concerned with human behavior in a professional setting. It addresses questions such as: Why do employees act the way they do? What drives motivation and performance? How do leaders influence organizational outcomes? How do group dynamics shape decision-making and productivity? How do organizational systems, structures, and culture foster or hinder performance? This course delves deep into the micro, meso, and macro levels of organizational behaviour: Micro-level (individual behaviour): personality, perception, motivation, learning, and job attitudes. Meso-level (group behaviour): communication, group development, conflict, teamwork, and leadership. Macro-level (organizational systems): structure, culture, power, politics, and change. As global work environments become more complex, diverse, and dynamic, understanding OB is no longer optional but essential. Organizations that cultivate psychological safety, promote inclusive leadership, foster motivation, and encourage constructive conflict resolution tend to outperform their peers in innovation, employee retention, productivity, and brand perception. Leaders who understand OB principles are better equipped to: Shape high-performing teams Reduce employee turnover Improve organizational agility Build strong cultures Resolve internal crises Design change management strategies Navigate power dynamics and informal politics By the end of this course, you will: Develop a nuanced understanding of how individual traits and emotions affect workplace behaviour. Explore the psychological foundations of decision-making, learning, and perception. Master motivational models like Maslow’s Hierarchy, Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, Vroom’s Expectancy Theory, and McClelland’s Needs Theory. Critically evaluate group processes, stages of team development, norms, roles, and team cohesion. Analyze different leadership styles (transactional, transformational, servant, charismatic, etc.). Understand power dynamics, organizational politics, and ethical dilemmas. Assess the impacts of corporate culture, diversity, globalization, and technology on human behaviour.
