Hello and welcome to EarthTab Business School. My name is Ethan Mitchelle and i will be your preceptor for the course Digital Painting And Concept Art. In the dynamic realm of visual media, concept artists and digital painters are the architects of imagination, the creative minds behind the characters we adore, the worlds we explore, and the cinematic universes we lose ourselves in. This Digital Painting and Concept Art course is a multidimensional program curated for visionaries who wish to not only develop technical mastery in digital artistry but also become storytellers with impact and imagination. This is not just a course that teaches how to draw and paint using digital tools, it is an end-to-end creative transformation program. Whether you’re an absolute beginner with no background in digital illustration, a traditional artist making the transition into digital media, or a hobbyist eager to break into professional creative industries, this course meets you where you are and takes you far beyond. We begin with the core principles of visual art, drawing fundamentals, understanding light and form, color theory, and the psychology of visual design. These are timeless, traditional art foundations necessary for any professional artist, and we study them in depth, applying them directly to digital formats. We then transition into an in-depth understanding of digital painting environments and tools, Photoshop, Procreate, Corel Painter, Clip Studio Paint, and others. You will become fluent in layers, brushes, blending modes, opacity control, masking, color grading, and perspective grids. The use of graphics tablets will be emphasized, teaching you how to replicate real brush strokes, sketching techniques, and shading with pen pressure sensitivity and control. The “Concept Art” part of this course is where your creativity takes full flight. You will learn how to design the look and feel of imagined worlds, starting with thumbnail sketches and rough ideations and progressing to fully-rendered visual masterpieces. You’ll be trained to create: Fantasy and Sci-fi environments (cities, ruins, forests, underwater worlds, space stations) Character concepts (heroes, villains, sidekicks, NPCs) Creature and monster design (dragons, aliens, hybrids, undead, bots) Props and world-building elements (vehicles, weapons, artifacts, architecture) Beyond just visuals, we explore the narrative structure behind art, how mood, posture, costume, lighting, and scenery combine to tell a story. This includes intensive practice in moodboarding, reference gathering, visual research, and ideation frameworks. By the end of this course, you will create a professional portfolio project that includes: Full turnaround sheets of original characters Dynamic environment concept illustrations A world-building narrative including a fictional lore Sketches, studies, and ideation work demonstrating artistic process A digital artbook layout (optional) This portfolio is suitable for job applications in: Game design studios Animation and cartoon production houses Book and comic publishing companies Film and VFX studios Freelance digital art gigs and self-publishing To empower you with technical and creative proficiency in digital painting.
